OUR MISSION

Queen City College and Career Mentors is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to empower motivated, under-resourced students to pursue and achieve their college, community college, and career goals. Through mentorship, resources, and advocacy, we strive to break down barriers to education and create a future where every student, regardless of background, can achieve their goals.

OPENING DOORS

Queen City College and Career Mentors strives to expand access to college, community college, and career pathways. We guide students through applications, financial aid, and goal-setting—helping them take confident first steps toward their future.

WALKING WITH YOU

Our support continues beyond high school. From college entry to graduation or from training to a first job we stay connected through mentorship, coaching, and encouragement. We’re in it for the long haul, ensuring no student feels alone in their journey.

CHAMPIONING CHANGE

About Us

Queen City College and Career Mentors began informally in 2017, when Dr. Kathy Fine moved to Charlotte. A newcomer, she struggled to gain access to students who could benefit from her expertise. Initially working with Pell-eligible students from across the country, she decided to focus her energy and efforts to students in the Charlotte area so that the impact of her work is felt within her own community. Aspiring to partner with other local community-based organizations dedicated to educating our students, Queen City College and Career Mentors

What We Offer

We provide hands-on help with applications, essay writing, timelines, and school selection—whether students are pursuing four-year universities or two-year community colleges.

Career Pathway Exploration

For students seeking alternatives to traditional college, we offer career coaching and exposure to programs like apprenticeships, vocational training, and certifications.

Financial Aid & Scholarship Guidance

From completing the FAFSA to finding scholarships, we help students and families access the funding they need to make college or training affordable.

Persistence & Transition Support

Our commitment continues after high school graduation. We help students adjust to college life, stay on track academically, and overcome obstacles along the way.
